As a parent of a competitive rider, you face joys and challenges
unlike those of parents of other athletes. Riding is the one sport
where interaction with an equine friend develops skills your child
wouldn’t achieve in any other sport. It is also a high-risk
sport requiring focus and discipline.
The demands of being a parent of a competitive rider have a way
of easily tapping emotional, physical, financial and mental resources.
You are called upon to balance the needs of other children or
family members while meeting these demands. When your child gets
frustrated, moody, loses confidence, has a fall, engages in negative
self-talk, evaluates his or her self-esteem by their performance,
or berates himself/herself for imperfection you may want to throw
in the towel.
By working with a mental performance coach your child will learn
to maintain focus, relax during training and competitions, develop
skills more quickly, gain self-confidence, shift focus from horses
and other life areas more smoothly, communicate more effectively
with you and increase his/her enjoyment of the process in achieving
goals.
Our mental performance coach will work in conjunction with you
and your trainer to address the unique developmental needs of
your child. With a mental performance coach working with your
child, you can rest assured that your challenges as a show-parent
will be eased.
